Embedding Inclusive Course Design workshop

On the 14th May 2019 the Swansea Academy of Inclusivity and Learner Success (SAILS) held a conference on “Inclusive experience for disabled students in higher education”. The programme showcases the work done in this area across UK universities. The Centre for Teaching Innovation at the University of Westminster, supported Daniela de Silva, a project lead of Being Westminster: Inclusive Course Design taking part at this conference.

Daniela delivered a workshop during which the audience got a first-hand experience of the Being Westminster: InclusiveCourseDesignChecklist. During the workshop the participants discussed the topic via Lego Serious Play and provided instantaneous feedback via Mentimeter ( www.menti.com).

The session discussed course design in a highly interactive manner and the feedback from the three main questions posed during the sessions are evident in the comments from the participants.

The Director of the Swansea Inclusivity Academy www.swansea.ac.uk/inclusivity-academy Professor Michael Draper, attended the workshop and was interested in having access to the checklist so academic staff at Swansea University can use it as a development tool to enhance their inclusive course design practices.
